Gallery Zvonimir, Kralja Zvonimira 114, Baška
26. 06. - 28. 07. 2021
Exhibition of Josip Restek, a renowned Croatian academic painter, graphic artist, illustrator, restorer, sacral painter and pedagogue, whose works have found an enviable place in Croatia and much wider European and universal cultural heritage!
Josip Restek (1915-1987) upgraded his graphic and art education with numerous study stays in European cities, pulsating centers of artistic and graphic expression, where his fascination with European abstraction was born, which shapes his artistic and especially graphic expression and brings him numerous domestic and international recognitions and awards.
Josip Restek spent a significant part of his time in Baška, where he had a summer house and studio and used the Baška landscape as inspiration for his works. The Zvonimir Gallery will exhibit about twenty paintings and graphics that are part of the private collection of Mrs. Ivana Đurinović-Wolf, niece of Josip Restek.
Josip Restek died in Zagreb on May 13, 1987, leaving over 2,300 valuable works of art www.josiprestek.com
For this occasion, we selected several abstract motifs, as the examples of an alternative landscape inspired by individual shapes from nature or images of space. A lesser-known aspect of Restek’s art is the one that speaks of his work in the context of an island: these are coastal motifs that he documents in a more or less realistic manner. The environment rich in color and light, charged with a unique atmosphere and way of life, becomes a well of impressions. These impressions are depicted in all the variants of painted landscapes, and they reflect in various forms of the artist’s visual solutions.
The exhibition at the Zvonimir Gallery will stay open until July 28.
